Croperdy Planter
Three members of the ECO council worked with a local gardening expert this week. Our ECO members have "planted up" the container which is situated under the railway bridge as you approach the village. The school has adopted this planter, which is one of three in Cropredy.

Vegetable Soup
Our new ECO COUNCIL are currently involved in digging vegetables out of the garden and turning them into delicious vegetable soup. The soup will be sold to parents and pupils to raise money for new ECO resources. One of the main aims this year for the ECO council is to encourage more pupils to use alternative forms of transport for travelling to school.

Eco Spies
During term 4, we became 'Eco Spies'. We conducted an audit in each class to see how good they are at saving energy. We looked at whether lights, computers, projectors and radiators were switched off when the room was empty. We checked to see if people had windows open all day, letting the heat out. We discovered that, on the whole, we are all very good at turning things off most of the time.

Bug Hotels
In term 5, the Eco Council started an activity called 'Creating a Bug Hotel'. This was all about promoting biodiversity in our school. Members of the Eco Council and other children who were interested, formed an Eco Club, which met after school one day per week. During these sessions, children in groups designed and made their own bug hotels, trying to attract as many different species as possible! See the photographs to have a look at our finished hotels.

Prize winning!
Each week, Miss Brook had to complete a blog to talk about what the Eco Club had been up to during their biodiversity activity. Our blog was put into a prize draw and we won a fantastic bird box, feeder and camera system for the school. Brilliant!

Gardening
During one lunchtime per week, some willing volunteers have been helping to plant different seeds. We are growing potatoes, leeks, carrots, sweet corn, beans, strawberries and more! We hope to be able to taste our produce soon!

Scarecrow Competition
To look after our seeds in the school garden, the Eco Council held a competition to see who could design the best scarecrow. Ben from year 2 won with his wizard inspired design. He then helped the Eco Council construct our scarecrow. We took a picture of it to enter a countywide competition. His label says “I am the Wizard of Cropredy, conjuring magic to help your seeds grow.”

Green Britain Day
Thursday 17th June 2010 was Green Britain Day. To celebrate this at Cropredy we dressed up in something green and we all made a ‘green pledge’, saying what we are each going to do to look after the environment.
